Bring the prescribed device to the fitting
The relevant comparison is the complete shoe-and-orthotic combination. A shoe that fits with its original liner may become too shallow once the device is installed. Check the heel seating, the area above the toes and how the orthotic lies in the footbed.
Follow the prescriberâs directions about removing the factory insole. Stacking layers without checking can change both the available room and how the device works. Do not trim a prescribed orthotic simply to make it fit a preferred shoe.
Removable does not automatically mean compatible
A removable liner creates access, but it does not establish sufficient depth or the right foundation. If the orthotic shifts, rocks or forces the upper against the foot, another shoe construction may be needed.
Keep the prescribed purpose central. If symptoms increase in the new combination, return to the clinician with both items rather than assuming the device or the shoe must be wrong in isolation.
