Identify what Mesa is missing before moving to Scrambler
Mesa Trail II serves as a flexible trail-running candidate. Xero positions Scrambler Low EV around more performance-focused trail exploration and a different outsole construction. That provides a reason to compare them when your existing shoe lacks the terrain behavior you want, not an automatic upgrade path.
Write down the issue: stone sensitivity, upper movement, tread contact or wear in a particular area. These problems do not necessarily share the same solution.
Compare the complete trail outing
A more substantial-looking sole is not proof of better grip on your local rock, and a lighter impression is not proof of adequate protection for a long route. Examine the exact tread and try suitable familiar ground before assigning either shoe a demanding day.
