Identify the white material before treating it
White mesh, coated synthetic leather and natural leather need different care. Read the instructions for the exact upper rather than assuming one whitening method is harmless across all three. Color does not determine whether a shoe is machine washable.
Remove loose dry dirt gently before wet cleaning so it is not rubbed farther into the surface. Test an approved product on an inconspicuous area, especially near colored trim or printed details. A product sold for white shoes is not automatically suitable for every finish.
Aim for clean without sacrificing the construction
