Are Barefoot Shoes Good for Plantar Fasciitis?

A painful heel changes the starting point
The NHS advises cushioned, supportive footwear for plantar fasciitis and cautions against barefoot walking on hard surfaces. That is different from marketing a thin flat shoe as a treatment. A barefoot-style product still varies in cushioning and structure, so the label is not enough to judge it.
Do not replace an effective symptom-management plan solely because a product promises stronger feet. If heel pain is persistent, establish what is causing it and what footwear changes are appropriate with a qualified clinician.
Separate a later preference from treatment now
Someone may eventually prefer more flexible shoes without that making them the right choice during a flare. If a clinician supports a trial, keep it limited and observe the next-morning response as well as the sensation while wearing the shoe.
Retain the current symptom-management plan
Retain access to the comfortable footwear or support already recommended. A shoe with a removable liner is useful only if the complete setup fits properly; it is not permission to improvise orthotic adjustments. Worsening pain is a reason to reconsider exposure, not to push through in pursuit of adaptation.
