01

Walking comfort does not fully predict running fit

An everyday walking shoe can feel relaxed and roomy while allowing too much movement at a faster pace. Running adds repeated changes in load and foot placement, so check whether the heel and midfoot remain controlled without squeezing the toes. The outsole also needs to match the route: an office sneaker’s appearance tells you little about its suitability for regular outdoor mileage. Start by defining whether the pair is mainly for walking, running or a genuine mixture.

02

Decide whether one pair creates a compromise

Using one shoe for both activities may be practical when the fit and surface match. It also means running wear affects the pair you rely on every day, and wet shoes may not dry before the next outing. If your walking mostly happens on hard floors but your runs follow muddy paths, separate footwear can solve a real conflict. Introducing a new minimalist shoe for walking does not establish readiness to transfer all running sessions into it immediately.
